I still cannot stop thinking about the death of my grandmother.

My grandmother died three months ago in a very strange, almost suicidal way. She had been living in a cabin in Florida with no air-conditioning or kitchen, and what little she did have she'd spend it on alcohol. After ignoring her medical problems for months, it finally turned into sepsis and overwhelmed her immune systems. We were told by some affirmative action hire doctor that we had six months, then the week after she had a month. On Monday, we were told it may happen next week, Wednesday we were told she needed hospice care. That following Sunday morning she was dead. It was strange to see someone who had raised me die scared.

When the hospice nurse came in on the preceding Monday, and asked what was going to happen, it had me floored. The almost profane innuendo of whether my grandmother was ready to die or whether we were going to pay for a risky treatment was insane. When my grandmother looked at me, tired and scared, I had to walk out, and I regret that profoundly. We as a family asked for more time, and we were told we could wait till noon. My mother came out and asked me to sit with my grandmother, and oddly lucid she said she was ready. I don't think she meant it, but I think she wanted to be tough in front of me as best as she could.

I think about her every day.

I am grateful for my grandfather, who reads the Bible with me and is a spiritual guide. I am grateful that my last words were said out of love. I'm grateful I got to blow her a kiss when I last saw her. I pray for her, and I pray I get to see her again. I hope that wherever she is, she is happy, and resting.

Friday night drunk thread

Agreed to work to drive down to to a sister hospital Monday. Drunk me was like ‘yeah sure whatever' and now that I've become more drunk I heavily regret this. Not sure why I was assigned these patients since they're both previous pediatric cases. One is acute leukemia and the other is prior hx of neuroblastoma and both are only 26/27. Neuroblastoma will hate me for ordering bilateral BMBx with pede onc and acute leukemia will just be mad that I'm going to just see him and likely push for a pede onc consult.

Until then I'm just going to be drinking frick tons of Svedka because the liquor store grabbed the wrong bottle and I was too neurodivergent to correct the guy :marseyautism:

Op's post:

For example, my next door neighbor is a guy who's in his mid 30's. But he acts like a legit boomer. His Facebook is nothing but posts about how "Darn millennials wearing their skinny jeans and drinking their soy lattes" (ironic coming from a millennial), his lack of understanding that I don't want him parking all his shit in my yard which he defends as "I've lived here longer, I can park my trailers wherever I want", and his comments about how my tattoos are going to ruin my life. Anyone else ever meet non boomers who act like boomers?

[–][deleted] 413 points 1 day ago

Yes. A lot of people just turn into their parents, the good and the bad.

To avoid slipping into the boomer mentality it requires constant introspection and always questioning why you feel the way you do about things, rather than just forming an opinion and justifying it from there

Lots of people patting themselves on the back in the thread, and also the entire sub. Might be tied with childfree for being the pettiest sub on reddit.

[🔥🔘🔘🔘🔘] Is Social Security Broken?

Most Based Comments

With regards to those who have any sway, … not supposedly random idiots (-29)

Basedness: 🔥🔘🔘🔘🔘

In those circumstances you are choosing to spend more. When you're car breaks down and that's 1 or 2 whole paychecks worth, that is not a choice. (223)

It is always a choice. When I was broke and my electricity was about to be shut off I still invested once a week even if it was only $10-$25. (-17)

Basedness: 🔥🔘🔘🔘🔘

as it should be (26)

Because the idiot Republicans and moronic Democrats have it so well under control? (-20)

Angriest Comments

Angriness: 😡😡😡😡😡

This isn't a great example but yes it's broken. My mom worked her whole life and only gets $800 at 73 because she worked low wage jobs without a degree. Chicken and egg bullshit coz they say had she earned more. My dad died and had SSDI and my mom couldn't get it as a survivor benefit and he barely didn't meet the basic SS requirement because he did too many cash jobs during his career since the low wage jobs (a fricking TEACHER) didn't pay much before he got cancer and couldn't work more. This shit is fundamentally broken and sadly no one cares. Old people who worked their whole lives shouldn't have to live out their cars (1)

Angriness: 😡😡😡😡😡

What ‘s insane, SS # used to be only for SS purposes. Now it's like a national ID. Stolen. ID stolen. Financial fraud. Yes it broken and it's just a slush fund. I'll pay in my whole life and get shit in return. Better system?: Gov takes money, same rate, and gives back at retirement to you or family at the same rate at US bonds. No one can steal. If you die your family gets it. As is. If you die, they keep it. That's a crime. Most goes to welfare and illegals who pay nothing. (1)

Angriness: 😡😡😡😡😡

"Because you have to pay for people who didn't plan." You mean people like me and my four and a half year old who didn't plan on my wife dying of cancer. Yeah, we're such buttholes. How could we not think of you first? (22)

What your selfish WIFE didn't think about when she was freeloading with her CANCER is that u/MD28A can no longer afford his SUMMER HOME in MONTANA and now has to wake up in a MILD SWEAT in April because he FORGOT TO TURN THE AC ON LAST NIGHTHow could you SSI-collecting leeches not think of the poor BILLIONAIRES and the MILD INCONVENIENCES that they now have to SUFFER through due to paying into the SYSTEM? Do you have any idea how hard it is to remember to turn on the AC before the first day of 80 degree weather??? (3)
